So we got a case (big whoop) for expansion ports we got a networking card and a wi-fi card (no antenna though so useless), not like we won't to go on the web. Xp would be like flu to Victorian child. A USB 1.0 card also.
The GPU seems to be generic one only has VGA. I believe it to be our source of the problem the computer turns on but I get no signal. I've ordered some old Nevada card (64mb) also with VGA. I'm not really a gamer (except the odd Minecraft world, WII sports match and fallout 4 character) and I'd rather just watch a movie and play games on my 360 anyway. So we just need visual in a weird sense I wouldn't mind a lower resolution for that old skool look.
For ports we got them all; PS2 [check], USB 1.0 [check], serial and parallel [check], basic 3.5mm audio [triple check] and finial a "game port" it looks like a mix between serial and parallel (female) and is 15 pins (8pin , 7pin). Hoped it would have been display based. That last one throw me off a bit to find out what is was I used this website .
We do have a floppy drive and a DVD drive. For secondary storage a single 160GB hardrive and from what I can make out two 40GB hard drive synced. Not bad to be honest my current laptop only got 256GB I think (that or 512GB)
For RAM 512mb
For the life of me I can't figure out the CPU specs.
Finally a 105 Watt power supply
Firstly the case is rusty it needs a good sanding and then a paint. There is sides but I actually think I would like an open case design (then when being store place the case back on) possibly not the safest idea but cool, hell ya.
More importantly the computer doesn't turn on the power supply spins to life the hard drive shoot to action the fan begin it might spins. But not signal on the two displays I tried. The VGA connector looks rusty what seems like the smoking gun. Until I do that without ripping the CPU out (I will do it later to re-paste). I can't see the specs or brand of some of the stuff. It's a legit PC seems good. Similar to me he was a tech nerd so I would expect him to get some good parts (if he really like me on a budget 0_<).
I have a lot of old phone and I kind of want to flash mod them you need serial ports and parrel ports. Do I have a computer with these no. The only thing to come close was also his windows ME (ewwwwwwwwwwww) laptop which also is broken and PC's are nicer to open and work with. Yes laptops are smaller as a teen space is important (I'm a CRT and some CD away from being on a episode of hoarders) PC's are so so so much more serviceable slide case and remove stuff with any old parts. Every laptop the parts are way more personalised, aka a pain to find affordable parts on a budget. It's going to run Windows XP. It will be useful for; old software, music, the CD burner and a legacy machine for other old junk I buy.
I talk a big computer game but I've never actually done something like this. I think this is my chance to learn it! I have money saved up, time and a dad who can help. If I want to do this stuff for a job one day actually doing something like this would be killer. And documenting is for your pleasure and can act almost like a test cause to write it well I got to know my stuff.
I'd love to add a tv card for the love of the game.
That case is a danger I'm kinda not into tetanus so.... Its got to be fixed. Later, I will sand the living hell out of that rust. in the future maybe we could paint it and fix it to look nicer but for now I do not want to live with that health hazard!
As mentioned previously a new GPU is on it's way to my house.
